The "Noble Lie"

Money is what holds together a Social Structure based on lies

There is a concept in political science called "The Noble Lie” which states that it is acceptable for members of the elite to lie to the public as long at it it for the “greater good” of the social order, “myths used by political leaders seeking to maintain a cohesive society."

This has been a technique used by the elite from the time before Plato up to the present. There are many examples, but for brevity sake I will start from the recent past.

In the US the war between the North and South was not a “Civil War” but a “War of Secession” and it was fought for economic reasons. (“The War of Northern Aggression was about tariffs and northern economic imperialism. The North was protectionist. The South was free trade. The North wanted to finance its economic development by forcing the South to pay higher prices for manufactured goods. The North passed the Morrill Tariff which more than doubled the tariff rate to 32.6% and provided for a further hike to 47%. The tariff diverted the South’s profits on its agricultural exports to the coffers of Northern industrialists and manufacturers. The tariff was designed to redirect the South’s expenditures on manufactured goods from England to the higher cost goods produced in the North.”) Lincoln did not believe blacks were equal to whites and did not oppose slavery (Debating Sen. Stephen Douglas, Lincoln said, “I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes nor of qualifying them to hold office nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races, which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality.), yet, the popular myth promotes him as a defender of human rights and liberator of the slaves.

The myth about WWI blames the German militarism for the horrors of that conflagration. For a 100 years we've been told thus and it is now an unquestioned “truth”, yet, a new study of the facts show the truth to be the exact opposite. “Men who saw the rapidly developing economic, commercial and industrial power of Germany as a threat”. (If you are sympathetic to the view that Germany was responsible for the war and that Britain and her allies fought for the noble cause of saving civilization from German tyranny, we invite you to consider the possibility that you have been misled. We too were once convinced of Germany’s guilt, but having studied the war in minute detail for many years are now firmly of the opinion, and confident we can prove to you, that it was not Germany to blame, but a secret coterie of immensely wealthy upper-class men in Britain. Men who saw the rapidly developing economic, commercial and industrial power of Germany as a threat to their secret plan to bring the entire civilized world under the control of the British Empire.)
Our entry (USA) into WWII is also a myth that is continuously promoted by our social elite. FDR knew it and the military chain of command did also. (Comprehensive research has shown not only that Washington knew in advance of the attack, but that it deliberately withheld its foreknowledge from our commanders in Hawaii in the hope that the "surprise" attack would catapult the U.S. into World War II. Oliver Lyttleton, British Minister of Production, stated in 1944: "Japan was provoked into attacking America at Pearl Harbor. It is a travesty of history to say that America was forced into the war.)

After WWII George Kennan, considered one of the architects of post war foreign policy, proposed that we should dispense with any sentimentality and unrealistic goals as “human rights and democratization”. That the US should only make alliances that will insure the maintenance of “our” wealth. (From 0:56 to 1:59 “with 50% of the world's wealth but only 6% of it's population we, can not fail to be the object of envy and resentment our real task is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity to do so we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and daydreaming, we should cease to talk about vague and unreal objectives such as human rights the raising of the living standard and democratization we are going to have to deal in straight power concepts. The less we are hampered by idealistic slogans the better.” (Sorry, I can only send you to a segment of my own production since the video has been removed from YouTube)) Although Kennan was speaking about South East Asia specifically, subsequent actions from the US government have shown that the establishment took him at his word, as demonstrated by the number of covert actions since the war, and alliances with wholly undemocratic and totalitarian regimes around the world. This, of course, without being made explicit to the public at large. To us, we were always fighting for Democracy, Liberty, Human Rights, and so on and so forth.

This IS the “Noble Lie” in the USA.

(from Dictionary.com)

Noble       7. of an admirably high quality; notably superior; excellent.

Lie         1. a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood.

“Noble Lie” has been used very effectively to compel the population into actions and support of what the elite want to carry out in the political sphere. However, it wasn't until the early 20th century that the “Noble Lie” entered into the realm of commerce becoming the industrial strength manipulator that we have at present. It has now become routine and accepted as normal to lie in order to promote a commercial product. It was Edward Bernays, among others, who promoted the use of new psychological principles developed by his uncle Sigmund Freud. Bernays wrote: “If we understand the mechanism and motives of the group mind, is it not possible to control and regiment the masses according to our will without their knowing it?” (Propaganda by Edward Bernays, pg. 47) Apparently it is, since we have all become mindless consumers feeding the coffers of multi-national corporations.

This practice of lying has now spread to academia and science where results of experiments depend on who is funding them (The New England Journal of Medicine is not alone in featuring research sponsored in large part by drug companies — it has become a common practice that reflects the growing role of industry money in research.)

In my view all these lies revolve around the acquisition of money by the protagonists. It has nothing to do with the cohesion of the social order. The lies remain as “insider” knowledge. It is easy to surmise why the upper echelons of the elite would want to keep it hidden, but why would the middle rung people want to remain silent? Again, it is money. These middle rung individuals are the academics, administrators, scientists, editors, reporters, officers, etc. who facilitate the maintenance of such lies, and they risk their salaries, funding and all economic benefits that come with their position.

A case in point is the very factual and logical data presented by over 2,000 members of Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, experts on the construction AND destruction of buildings, and Pilots for 9-11 Truth, professional experts in the aeronautical field, which demonstrates the impossibility of the official story of the event. These and several other similar organizations are studiously ignored by the mainstream media. This indicates that the Media is under the control of the elite and they are protecting the “Noble Lie” so that we can continue supporting whatever unstated agenda they are pursuing.

The lie is held from disclosure by the money that binds those who keep it secret.

My question then is, could there be an economic system designed where truth would be the most highly rewarded attribute?

The problem with fortresses built on sand is that they will come down as soon as the tide comes in.  As for our present social structure, we can see that the tide of truth is rising everywhere, so we know what to expect.

When things are not going well, until you get the truth out on the table, no matter how ugly, you are not in a position to deal with it.

We, in the United States, have been on a track that is leading us to a terrible destination. But we have one last chance to take a different track, and it's approaching fast. This decision is for the survival of our species. These are my thoughts on it.

Hope for a Happy New Year!

Here's my hope for all of us, that 2015 will be a year when Happiness, Peace and Freedom sprouts all over the world, and the idea of America comes back into our consciousness and lives again!

And I do have some good reason to feel so hopeful.

I believe it is well known to anyone with an attentions span of more that 15 minutes, that our commercial media is full of lies. That the media is not doing it's constitutional function of providing important information to the citizenry to maintain a democratic form of government. This is not because the media is only in the business of selling "eyeballs" for advertisers. It goes much deeper than that, as Robert Parry has stated in his article "The Victory of Perception Management":

"To understand how the American people find themselves trapped in today’s Orwellian dystopia of endless warfare against an ever-shifting collection of “evil” enemies, you have to think back to the Vietnam War and the shock to the ruling elite caused by an unprecedented popular uprising against that war.

While on the surface Official Washington pretended that the mass protests didn’t change policy, a panicky reality existed behind the scenes, a recognition that a major investment in domestic propaganda would be needed to ensure that future imperial adventures would have the public’s eager support or at least its confused acquiescence.

This commitment to what the insiders called “perception management” began in earnest with the Reagan administration in the 1980s but it would come to be the accepted practice of all subsequent administrations, including the present one of President Barack Obama.

In that sense, propaganda in pursuit of foreign policy goals would trump the democratic ideal of an informed electorate. The point would be not to honestly inform the American people about events around the world but to manage their perceptions by ramping up fear in some cases and defusing outrage in others – depending on the U.S. government’s needs."

But now we have the antidote to this poisoned stream of information.

Below is a video of a TED Talk given by James Corbett about what the media may look like in the near future.  Open Source Journalism, as he explains it in "The Net is Mightier than the Sword":

Here is the result of the open source journalism on the MH17 crash on his website The Corbett Report:

As we've been told before "Truth shall set you free".  Lets support, promote and encourage this very promising form of information distribution.

May we all have a very Happy, Fruitful and Peaceful 2015!

Pass the word!

Sincerely,

Still making sense

Bill Still points out, in this very short video, the root causes of our present economic problem.  He points directly at where the problem is so it is perfectly clear.  (check out his channel and subscribe to his newsletter if you can.  He's doing good work)

We don't have to be afraid of the hardships that will inevitable arise as we go into the future, because this same "hardships" will be the vehicles through which we will arrive at viable, just, and peaceful solutions.

ALL of us participating in the recovery.

Pass the word!

A Message for all Mankind - Charlie Chaplin

A very appropriate message for this time:

Pass the word!  And let's go out there and do the work!

This Time

In this 13th anniversary of the “second Pearl Harbor”,  here's a music video we just finished that asks some relevant questions about our awareness of this time we are going through.

Pass it on if you think it worthy.

Thanks.

The Space Within

This post is in response to a question a friend of mine asked about the previous post.

 “How do you wake up?”

Good question. I asked that question myself many times. What I've come to understand, from my own experience, is that "to be awake" means to be present, to be "here", at the present time. This is difficult because we normally act from the Ego mental center, or "the interpreter" as Gazzaniga calls it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJKloz2vwlc , and that means that our perception of what is happening now are being analyze, sorted, and categorize before we even become aware of what is happening (all this analyzing is done in a fraction of a second before we become aware of it)... so when we act, we quite often act "inappropriately" to what the situation calls for. Where possible fear and pain will make a rejector response and the possibility of pleasure will make an attractor response.

What we have to learn is to perceive the world around us without the "filters" our mind uses. Break the habit of acting from that Ego center, the "interpreter".

And that can only happen by training our mind to do otherwise. That is the metaphor being used in the “Wake Up” video. The training consists on paying attention to what your mind is doing. You do that through meditation. Any of the many forms of meditation. In which you try to keep the mind quiet by focusing in your breathing. Then observing how the verbal mind, the chattering mind, usually on the left hemisphere, keeps producing thought messages. Pretty soon you can actually “see” where those thoughts originate inside your head. You can go back to quiet by re-focusing on your breath again. (With no reproaches about “How bad I am for not being able to stay quiet” and so forth). What I did was to "look" at the right side of my head and try to observe from that side, although, in time, I “saw” that the “right” side included my heart. (I haven't heard of any meditation methods that use this procedure, but it works for me).

Eventually, we are able to operate from this “new” center of perception at all times. This is when we can feel the environment we are in, literally, it is a sensual experience, instead of thinking about the environment we are in. It is a small and subtle difference of seeing with our mind, as opposed to seeing with our awareness. You'll be able to know this difference through experience. It can not be done intellectually. Then we can say we are awake. And what we see is really like a “new world” because of the absence of the perception filters we are used to.

It seems like hard work... No... it IS hard work!, but it gets easier as you go along.  Personally, I can not say that I am fully awake, because I still slip into old habits of mind perception from time to time, but I can stay in the right side of perception for longer periods of time.  It is getting easier all the time.

Other forms of waking up are like what the Native Americans used, from sweat lodges, to long, lone treks out in the desert (as Jesus did), to the experience of pain (as in that ceremony they had where the young man would be hung by hooks on his chest. Ugh, I'll stick to meditation) Some people report this type of changes after surviving traumatic situations. The use of psychedelic substances will also break up the perception habits and show a different train of perception. The danger here is that, unlike the old shamanic cultures, we tend to treat these substances as “entertainers”, where in a healthy environment they would be used as “teachers”. These substances open unused “windows” of perception, they are not “portals” through which we can walk through. The hard work of training your mind still needs to be done in a lucid state.

Looking at death in the face is also likely to snap you out of the hypnotic trance  :-)   but I would not recommend that method.

In any case, this video “The Space Within” attempts to pass a little bit of this information.

Thanks for the question.

 Love

 Bob
